About the groupGeneralThe GMFG is a small group of radio controlled aero modellers whose activities are based in and around the cathedral town of Guildford in Surrey. The GMFG has been in continuous existence for some thirty years and today stands stronger than ever with the recent acquisition of a second flying site.
This is an excellent "open area" yet privately owned grassed site where we have developed our own "full size" style runway layouts that are regularly kept mown with our own equipment. It has proved to be an excellent site for electric powered gliders with plenty of indigenous bird life to point out the thermals! InterestsThe main interests and activities of the current membership are predominantly radio controlled (r/c) power flying (using internal combustion engines) and electric powered sport / glider flying. There is also a healthy following of pure r/c gliding, both thermal and slope soaring, with many members regularly organising away trips to well known slope sites and their associated clubs. Thermal soaring is possible on both of the sites that the group has use of. One in particular is proving to have excellent thermal conditions and no doubt will become the main "arena" for electric powered "thermal" type gliders. Please note that the use of "bungees" or powered winches at our main site is not currently recomended. In the past a few members have had "rotary" winged models (helicopters and the like) and also "control line" models. Please note that the Group does not currently offer a designated site or area for use of these interests. The good, the bad and the ugly?
